Paul Sornik

Paul Sornik (born April 26, 1900 in Myslowitz , Upper Silesia , † March 21, 1982 ) was a German educator and politician ( GB / BHE , GDP ).

Life and work

After his school education, Sornik attended the teacher training institute in Myslowitz , graduated with the second teaching examination and, after ceding parts of Upper Silesia to Poland, worked as a teacher at German minority schools from 1922. In addition, he was active in the German plebiscite commission and in the Upper Silesian resident defense . In 1926 he began studying modern philology in Cracow and Berlin , which he completed in 1930 with the first and in 1932 with the second state examination for higher education. In addition, he was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD.

Sornik worked from 1932 until his leave of absence in 1937 as a teacher at private high schools and then worked in educational work. During this time he was, among other things, chairman of the German Theater Community , the German Cultural Association (1936–1939) and the German Gymnastics Association in Poland. He also acted as Vice President of the German People's Federation for the Protection of Minority Rights in Katowice . In 1940 he was appointed to the government and school council in Katowice and entrusted with the management of the Upper Silesian sports system. When the Gauleiter of Upper Silesia, Fritz Bracht , fell ill on January 20, 1945, Sornik represented him until January 26, in his function as Reich Defense Commissioner . Shortly before the end of the Second World War , he took over the management of the care center for the Upper Silesians who had fled to Saxony in Dresden . In 1945 he was taken prisoner, from which he was released in 1946 for health reasons.

After his release from captivity, Sornik moved to West Germany as an expellee , settled in Bavaria and initially hired himself there as a worker. Later he was government and school council for reuse in Munich .

Political party

Sornik co-founded the GB / BHE in Ansbach in 1950 and was later elected chairman of the GB / BHE district of Middle Franconia . Through the merger of the GB / BHE with the German party , he became a member of the All- German Party in 1961 .

MP

Sornik was elected to the German Bundestag in the federal election in 1953 , to which he belonged until 1957. He was drawn into parliament via the state list of Bavaria of the GB / BHE. From 1958 to 1962 he was a member of the Bavarian State Parliament .
