Paul Theodor Carpov , also Latinized Paulus Theodorus Carpovius , (* 1714 in Bolschow near Neustadt , Polish Prussia ; † May 27, 1765 in Bützow , Mecklenburg ) was a German philologist, theologian and university professor.

Life

Paul Theodor Carpov was the son of the Protestant pastor Adam Carpovius, who worked in Bolschow (also Bohlschau or Bolszewo) near Neustadt and Danzig from 1707 to 1740. Carpov had obtained his master's degree from the University of Wittenberg . He came from Danzig in 1735 as a private lecturer in oriental languages ​​at the Philosophical Faculty of Rostock University . In 1737 the reception at the faculty took place. He was appointed ducal full professor for Hebrew language and catechetical theology by Duke Karl Leopold of Mecklenburg in 1738 and was introduced to the office on October 22nd. He was given the position of Karl Arnd, which had been vacant for 17 years . On November 16, 1747, he received his doctorate med. Carpov was dean of the Faculty of Arts six times and rector of the university in 1744 .

When the Friedrichs University in Bützow was founded by Duke Friedrich von Mecklenburg in 1760 , the ducal professors from Rostock moved to the new university. Carpov received the professorship in Oriental Languages ​​at the Philosophical Faculty. In 1761 he was dean of the faculty and in 1763 rector of Bützow University. Carpov died in office in 1765, his successor was Oluf Gerhard Tychsen .

Paul Theodor Carpov was married to Maria Elisabeth Senstius from July 8, 1739.

Carpov mainly wrote writings on theological and Hebrew issues - on Hebrew legal history, culture and customs.
