Paul Wekesa (born July 2, 1967 in Nairobi ) is a former Kenyan tennis player .

Life

Wekesa studied at Chapman University in Orange , California , where he won the double title at the 1987 NCAA championships . He became a professional tennis player in the same year and reached the final of the Challenger tournament in Nairobi . The following year he was able to win the singles title in Nairobi, and in Tel Aviv he won his first double title on the ATP World Tour alongside Roger Smith . Overall, he was able to win three double titles in the course of his career, and another three times he was in a final. He reached his highest ranking in the tennis world rankings in 1988 with position 96 in singles and in 1991 with position 73 in doubles.

His best individual result at a Grand Slam tournament was reaching the third round of the US Open in 1994. In the doubles competition, he also reached the quarter-finals of the US Open in 1990.

He played 26 singles and eleven doubles games for the Kenyan Davis Cup team between 1986 and 1998 . Until 1991 his team played in the Africa group, from 1992 in the Euro / Africa group, where he also played against Denmark , Luxembourg and Ireland .
