John Letts (born May 11, 1964 in Houston , Texas ) is a retired American tennis player .

Life

Letts studied at Stanford University , where he won the NCAA championship twice with the team and was voted into the top selection All-American twice . He became a professional tennis player in 1986 and was able to win his only double title on the ATP World Tour in the same year . The year before he had won his first doubles tournament on the ATP Challenger Tour . In the course of his career he won six Challenger double titles, and he was also three times in the final of an ATP tournament. In the individual competition, he was less successful, his best result was the quarter-finals at the Challenger tournament in 1988 in San Luis Potosí . He reached his highest ranking in the tennis world rankings in 1988 with position 244 in singles and 1986 with position 69 in doubles.

His best individual result in a Grand Slam tournament was reaching the second round of the Australian Open in 1987. In the doubles competition, he also advanced to the quarter-finals at the 1986 Australian Open.

Letts played his last tournament on the tour in 1992.
