Paulinus Costa

Paulinus Costa (born October 19, 1936 in Rangamati , † January 3, 2015 in Dhaka ) was a Bangladeshi clergyman and archbishop of Dhaka .

Life

Paulinus Costa studied at the Collegio Urbano de Propaganda Fide and was ordained priest on December 21, 1963 in Rome . In 1981 he received his doctorate in theology ( PhD ).

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Rajshahi on January 11, 1996 . The Apostolic Nuncio in Bangladesh , Archbishop Adriano Bernardini , donated him episcopal ordination on April 26 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Michael Rozario , Archbishop of Dhaka, and Patrick D'Rozario CSC , Bishop of Chittagong .

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on July 9, 2005 Archbishop of Dhaka. On October 22, 2011, Benedict XVI. the resignation put forward by Paulinus Costa for reasons of age.

Act

Paulinus Costa was known as an ecumenical figure, especially for his collaboration with the Muslim population. In 2007 he was awarded the Mahatma Gandhi Peace Award and the Human Rights Legal Aid Society's human rights award in Bangladesh for his work .

President Abdul Hamid publicly condoled his family and the Christian population of Bangladesh and thanked Paulinus Costa for his work.
