Pawlikowice is a village with a school administration office of Gmina Wieliczka in the Powiat Wielicki of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship in Poland .

geography

The place is on the Wilga River , in Pogórze Wielickie , about 2 kilometers south of the city of Wieliczka . The neighboring towns are Raciborsko in the south, Koźmice Małe and Koźmice WIelkie in the west, Siercza and Rożnowa in the north, and Mietniów in the east.

history

The place was mentioned in a document in 1390 as Pavlicouicz . The name is patronymically derived from the first name Pawlik (mentions: Paulich 1204, Paulik 1212) with the typical West Slavic suffix - (ow) ice.

The private village initially belonged to the Kingdom of Poland (from 1569 in the aristocratic republic of Poland-Lithuania ), Krakow Voivodeship , Szczyrzyc District. In the 15th century it belonged to a knightly family from Taszyce (now a hamlet of Pawlikowice), in the 16th century the village was owned by the Morsztyn (Morstin) family from Raciborsko, who were strong supporters of Arianism and administrators during the Reformation of the Wieliczka Salt Mine . This radical current of the Reformation rejects the Trinity ( Polish Brothers ). At that time there was a congregation of the Polish Brothers, although there was no church building. Fausto Sozzini , who married the daughter of the owner of the village, lived there for four years (1583 to 1587) under the protection of the family .

During the first partition of Poland in 1772, the village became part of the new Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria of the Habsburg Empire (from 1804).

In 1903 the local manor was bought by the Michaelites . In 1903, Bronisław Markiewicz founded a nursing home for children.

In 1918, after the end of the First World War and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Pawlikowice became part of Poland , with the exception of the time when Poland was occupied by the Wehrmacht in World War II .
