Pazaryeri ( Armenokastron in Byzantine times , later Ermeni Derbendi ) is a city and a district in the Turkish province of Bilecik . The city is located about 20 kilometers south of the provincial capital Bilecik .
The district is located in the west of the province. It borders in the north on the central district, in the south on Bozüyük and in the west on the province of Bursa . The river Sorgun Çayı rises in the west and flows into the Karasu Çayı near Bilecik . At the village of Günyurdu , six kilometers northwest of the district town, it is dammed up to Günyurdu Barajı . Another four kilometers to the northwest, near the village of Büyükelmalı, there is another reservoir, the Büyükelmalı Göleti. Lake Bozcaarmut Göleti near the village of the same name is also located in the southwest of the district .
In 1231 a battle took place in Pazaryeri, then Ermeniderbendi, between the troops of the Seljuk sultan Ala ad-Din Kai Kobad I and those of the Byzantine Empire, which the Seljuks won with the support of Ertuğrul Gazi .
In addition to the district town, there are 24 villages ( Köy ) with an average of 167 inhabitants, of which Karaköy (578 inhabitants) is the largest.
