    The Pacific Alliance or Pacific Alliance (Spanish: Alianza del Pacífico ) is a Latin American free trade area founded in 2012 by Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru to promote regional trade and economic integration as well as a customs union, travel and to guarantee the absence of a visa and a common stock exchange.

    On April 28, 2011, an agreement was signed in Lima (Peru) on the initiative of the then Peruvian President Alan García, establishing the four countries of Chile , Colombia , Mexico and Peru . The alliance was founded on June 6, 2012.

    The four founding members Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru generated about 39% of the total GDP of Latin America in 2011 . At more than $ 2 trillion , its economic output was greater than that of the world's ninth largest nation, India . According to the World Trade Organization , the four countries exported goods worth more than 445 billion US dollars, outperforming the Mercosur trade union by almost 60%.

    Costa Rica and Panama are currently candidates for full membership.

    Experts refer to the Pacific Alliance as an economic strategic alliance with which the common interests of its Latin American member countries vis-à-vis the USA and Europe and especially in Asia are to be asserted and promoted. You operate very successfully a so-called "nation branding".

    During the conference in Viña del Mar, Chile in March 2017, the option of associate member status was also created. The third round of talks took place in March 2018 and Australia, Canada, New Zealand and Singapore were accepted as associate members.
