history
The place name Luçay appears in the first century after a land owner and former legionnaire of Caesar named Lucius. Because of his character, he and his country were nicknamed "Le Mal" (the bad guy).
Christianization and the formation of a parish probably took place in the 4th century. No documents exist about the place until the beginning of the Middle Ages . It was conquered several times and was badly affected in the Hundred Years War .
In the course of the French Revolution , the then place name Luçay-le-Chétif was changed to Luçay-le-Mâle. The population grew almost continuously from 1793 (1389 inhabitants) to 1982 (2334 inhabitants) and has since decreased again.
