Ardentes is a commune with 3860 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Indre in the Region Center-Val de Loire . It belongs administratively to the arrondissement of Châteauroux and is the main town ( chef-lieu ) of the canton of Ardentes . The residents call themselves Ardentais .

Ardentes is located on the Indre River . Ardentes is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Étrechet in the north and north-west, Mâron in the north and north-east, Sassierges-Saint-Germain in the east, Mars-sur-Indre in the south and south-east, Jeu-les-Bois in the south and south-west and Le Poinçonnet in the west .
The Way of St. James leads through the municipality on Via Lemovicensis and the former Route nationale 143 (today's D943).
