Préaux is a French municipality with 161 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Indre in the Region Center-Val de Loire ; it belongs to the Arrondissement of Châteauroux and the Canton of Valençay . It is located on the upper reaches of the Indrois River .

history

Originally called Sainte-Christophe, the area was given by King Philip August Guillaume-Raoul de Préaux for his use in the Battle of Bouvines in 1214 . The name of the new owners was transferred to the area. The castle, which was rebuilt in the 15th and 19th centuries, also comes from them.
