history

The municipality of Argy is grouped around Argy Castle , which in its current form dates from the 15th century, and whose previous building was more of a country house than a castle. The lords of Argy were subordinate to the lords of Buzançais until a dispute between the two families that broke out in 1461 led to King Louis XI. Argy reported directly to Tours .

A lord of Argy is first mentioned in 1115 on the occasion of the founding of the Notre-Dame du Landais abbey; his descendants in the male line owned the place until the end of the 13th century. By marriage, Argy then went to the Lord of Prungé, whose daughter bequeathed the place to the Brillac family , who died out in 1585. Their heirs from the Crevant family sold Argy in 1636 to Jean Philippeaux , lord of Buzançais , † 1660. Other lords of Argy were after him:

  • Elisabeth Blondeau, † 1694, widow of Jean Philippeaux
  • Jacques-León le Bouthillier de Chavigny, marquis de Beaujeu, and François le Bouthillier de Chavigny, Bishop of Troyes , their heirs, who in 1699 Argy with
  • Paul de Beauvilliers, duc de Saint-Aignan , exchanged, the husband of Henriette-Louise Colbert
  • Charles-Auguste de Rochechouart de Mortemart, husband of Marie-Anne Colbert
  • Louis-François-Charles-Augustin de Rochechouart de Mortemart, their son, † around 1743 underage
  • Paul-Hyppolite de Beauvillers, Charles-François de L' Aubespine and the demoiselles de Montmorency as Augustine's heirs

In 1766, Claude Douet de la Boulaye bought Argy, whose heir Gabriel-Isaac Douet de a Boulaye died in 1797. In 1790, when the départements were set up, Argy was designated the administrative seat of a canton to which the municipalities of Ménétréols , Pellevoisin , Sougé and Villegoin belonged; the canton was later dissolved again, the municipalities were distributed among different cantons, Argy himself Buzançais was added.
