Écueillé is a French commune with 1,261 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Indre in the Region Center-Val de Loire . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Châteauroux and the Canton of Valençay .
geography
The municipality is located in the Bas-Berry countryside , around 40 kilometers northwest of Châteauroux and 60 kilometers southeast of Tours , on the border with the Indre-et-Loire department . Neighboring municipalities to Écueillé are Luçay-le-Mâle in the north and east, Jeu-Maloches in the south-east, Heugnes and Préaux in the south, Villedômain in the south-west and Nouans-les-Fontaines in the north-west.
The place itself is on the left bank of the Tourmente River , which drains in a north-westerly direction and finally flows into the Indrois as a right tributary .
Transport links
The community is located away from national traffic routes. Local transport links are provided by the departmental roads D8 (from Issoudun towards Loches ) and D13 (from Lucay-le-Mâle to Châtillon-sur-Indre ).
The place is on the Train du Bas-Berry railway line . It is a narrow-gauge railway with 1 m gauge that runs from Argy to Lucay-le-Mâle and is now only operated for tourist reasons.
