Nouans-les-Fontaines is a French commune of 750 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the canton Montrésor in Indre-et-Loire in the region of Center-Val de Loire .

geography

Nouans-les-Fontaines is the easternmost commune of the Indre-et-Loire department. It is located in the hilly, green landscape of the Tourmente valley, which, in addition to extensive agricultural areas, gives numerous ponds and forests their special character. The city of Tours is 65 kilometers away.

history

Nouans was first mentioned in the 12th century under the name Sanctus Martinus de Noviento as a fiefdom of the Abbey of Villeloin .

Culture and sights

The Saint-Martin church from the 13th century is a listed building monument as Inscrit Monument Historique . In the collegiate church hangs the famous Pietá von Nouans by Jean Fouquet .
