Athée-sur-Cher is a French commune with 2,673 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Indre-et-Loire in the region of Center-Val de Loire ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Loches and the canton of Bléré . The inhabitants are called Athégien (ne) s .
geography
Athée-sur-Cher is located in the historic province of Touraine (also called Jardin de la France ) near the Cher river , which borders the municipality in the north, about 18 kilometers east of Tours . Athée-sur-Cher is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Martin-le-Beau in the north, Dierre in the northeast, Bléré in the east, Cigogné in the southeast, Courçay in the south, Truyes in the southwest and Azay-sur-Cher in the west.
The A85 car route runs through the municipality .
history
In 907 the place was first mentioned as Ateia . During the Second World War, the demarcation line led through the municipality during the time of the Vichy regime (1940-1944).
