Barrou is a French commune of 470 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in Indre-et-Loire in the region of Center-Val de Loire ; it belongs to the Arrondissement of Loches and the Canton of Descartes .

geography

Barrou lies on a loop of the Creuse river , about 20 kilometers east of Châtellerault and 60 kilometers south of Tours . The terrain in the municipal area of ​​30.71 km² gradually rises from the Creusetal in a north-easterly direction and reaches the highest point on a forest-covered plateau ( Bois des Cours ) at 146 m above sea level. Neighboring communities of Barrou are Abilly in the north, Le Grand-Pressigny in the northeast, Chaumussay in the east, Chambon in the southeast, Lésigny in the south and La Guerche in the northwest.

Attractions

  • Ruins of the former Commandery Epinat of the Knights Templar from the early 14th century. Around 1600 the commandery was given up. Some extensions on the monastery grounds date from the 17th century.
