Catchment area and river course of the Penschina (Пенжина)

The 713 km long Penschina ( Russian Пенжина ) is a river in the Far East of Russia ( Asia ).

It rises in eastern Siberia in the northern Kolyma Mountains . From there the Penschina flows through the foothills of these high mountains first in an easterly direction towards the Korjakengebirge , but then turns in an elongated arc towards the south. A good 60 km below the district administrative center of Kamenskoye on the right bank of the river , not far from the largest town on the river, Manily , the Penschina flows into the Penschina Bay , in the far north of the Sea of Okhotsk . Larger tributaries of Penzhina are Belaya , Chernaya , Murgal from the left and Oklan from the right. The landscape on the Penschina is predominantly characterized by boreal forest tundra .

Hydrology

The Penschina drains an area of ​​73,500 km². The mean discharge at the mouth is around 695 m³ / s. The river is ice-covered between November and early June.

Wildlife

In the river system of Penzhina following are lampreys before: Lethenteron camtschaticum and Lethenteron reissneri . The river system is used by salmon fish as spawning waters . The following fish species or genera come in Penzhina before: Phoxinus , pike , Hipomesus olidus , Arctic Norway ( Osmerus mordax dentex ), Coregonus anaulorum , Great Siberian whitefish ( Coregonus nasus ), Coregonus sardinella , Coregonus subautumnalis , Prosopium cylindraceum , Thymallus mertensii , pink salmon , chum salmon , coho salmon , Dolly Varden trout ( Salvelinus malma ), Salvelinus white-spotted charr , Salvelinus levanidovi , monkfish and alpine bullhead and three-spined and nine-spined Ling .
