Per Thöresson

Per Anders Thöresson (born September 14, 1962 in Stockholm ) is a Swedish diplomat . From 2016 to 2014 he was the Swedish ambassador to Switzerland . He has been ambassador to Germany since March 2017 .

Life

In 1983 Per Thöresson began studying business administration and economics at the Stockholm School of Economics . He worked for two years at Daimler-Benz in Stuttgart and then, from 1988 to 1990, at Andersen Consulting in Stockholm.

He is married and has two children. His daughter Sanna was a member of the jury for the Swiss preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 .

Diplomatic career

From 1990 to 1991 he was a consultant in the Department of Planning and Organization of the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and from 1991 to 1993 Assistant to the Director General of the Political Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He had his first diplomatic assignment abroad from 1993 to 1995 as Second Embassy Secretary at the Permanent Mission of Sweden to the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe (CSCE) and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in Vienna . From 1995 to 1999 he was first secretary of the embassy at the Permanent Mission of Sweden to the United Nations (UN) in New York . Returning to Sweden, he was Chief of Staff of the Swedish Foreign Minister Anna Lindh from 1999 to 2002 . From 2002 to 2006 he was Director General of the Administration Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the rank of Undersecretary of State . He was strongly criticized by the Swedish Disaster Commission for the 2004 tsunami disaster for not interrupting his Christmas vacation in Kungshamn because of the tsunami disaster, which also affected many Swedes in Asia .

From 2006 to 2014 he was the successor of the diplomat and crime writer Jan Mårtenson , the Swedish ambassador in Bern with accreditation for Liechtenstein .

In Switzerland, Thöresson was accused of lobbying for the Swedish Saab 39 multi- role fighter . The lobbying was expressly praised by the Swedish Carl Bildt . From 2014 to 2016 Thöresson was Sweden's Deputy Ambassador to the United Nations in New York. His successor in Switzerland was Magnus Holm . On March 9, 2017, he was accredited as the Swedish Ambassador in Berlin .
