The name Perfeist denotes a 22 hectare nature reserve with the official name Perfeist near Wasserliesch . The site is located within the municipality of Wasserliesch at 330 m above sea level on the Liescher Berg .

In 1986 the district government of Trier designated the area as a nature reserve because a habitat with unique flora and fauna had developed here. In addition to optimal climatic conditions, favorable soil conditions, here the so-called limestone grassland , created the prerequisites for the growth of an extraordinary number of rare plant and animal species, above all protected orchid species and varieties; For example, purple orchid , orchis anthropophora , himantoglossum hircinum , military orchid , pulsatilla vulgaris and other protected plant species such as Cowslip , Cornelian cherry , thyme , autumn crocus and blue gentian .

In order to develop the area, which has now become known nationwide, the municipality of Wasserliesch set up the Kultur- und Orchidenweg Wasserliesch as a hiking trail with funding from the EU and the state of Rhineland-Palatinate . Two hiking routes lead over six kilometers of circular paths with a difference in altitude of 200 meters over the Liescher Berg and make the nature reserve, which is otherwise prohibited, accessible to the public on a marked route. There is a parking lot with an information board in front of the entrance to the Perfeist nature reserve. The nature reserve is on stage 3 of the Moselsteig long-distance hiking trail ; it leads over 22.5 kilometers from Nittel to Konz. After about one kilometer, the path passes the Löschem chapel and after a 1.5 kilometer descent reaches the Moselle valley at Wasserliesch .
