Pet Halmen (born November 4, 1943 in Tălmaciu , Romania , † February 28, 2012 in Munich ) was a German stage and costume designer and director .

Life

Pet stalks, one of Transylvania originating German , came in 1958 after Berlin . At the local opera house he completed his training as a theater painter . He then made a name for himself as an assistant and costume designer for important scenographers, including in particular Jean-Pierre Ponnelle .

Halmen worked in the theaters of Oberhausen , Kiel and Wuppertal before moving to Düsseldorf in 1967 . For the realization of the Monteverdi cycle by Ponnelle and Nikolaus Harnoncourt in Zurich , Halmen took on the design of the costumes, but also worked as a dramaturgical collaborator.

He was then signed to the Metropolitan Opera in New York , the San Francisco Opera , the Milan Scala , the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Vienna State Opera . In 1984 he designed the equipment for the Ring des Nibelungen in Wiesbaden .

Later Halmen also worked as a director, mostly staging operas, but sometimes also plays.

Heinz Lukas-Kindermann hired him to Trier , where he worked for the Antikenfestspiele . Halmen staged Oedipus Rex and Antigonae with Anja Silja and René Kollo as well as Monteverdi's L'Orfeo in the Kaiserthermen . He designed the sets for Richard Strauss ' Salome and Richard Wagner's Rienzi .
