Peter Cornehl

Peter Cornehl (* 1936 in Magdeburg ) is a German Evangelical Lutheran theologian and university professor .

Life

He grew up in Hamburg . Deeply influenced by the Christian scouting and liturgical movement ( Berneuchen movement ), he studied Protestant theology in Tübingen , Heidelberg , Wuppertal and Hamburg after graduating from high school in 1956 . There he passed the first theological exam at the Hamburg Evangelical Lutheran Church in 1962 and, after the vicariate in 1968, the second theological exam and ordination. After receiving his doctorate in Mainz in 1966 in systematic theology with Wolfhart Pannenberg with a dissertation on the recent history of eschatology, he switched to practical theology. After the change he was research assistant to Hans-Rudolf Müller-Schwefe from 1966 , later scientific councilor and senior counselor, 1971 habilitation , collaboration in the study reform (including Hamburg theological propaedeutic course ). From 1976 to 2000 he taught as a professor of practical theology with a focus on homiletics and liturgy and university preacher at the main church of St. Catherine . He was involved in the German Evangelical Church Congress , u. a. in the Standing Committee on Last Supper, Worship, Feasts and Celebrations (AGOFF). Design, implementation and evaluation of the Liturgical Night (Düsseldorf 1973), at the Last Supper Forum (Kirchentage in Nuremberg 1979 and Hamburg 1981 ), head of the project committee for the Second Last Supper Forum in Hamburg 1981, Baptism Forum (1989, Berlin baptismal theses ). He was a member of the Scientific Advisory Board for Church Membership Studies of the EKD (KMU II-IV), temporarily as head. Long-term member of the editorial team of the magazine Pastoraltheologie , the work on Pastoral Theology and Practical Theology Today . He wrote numerous essays and lexicon articles in the field of worship and sermon. After retiring in 2000, continued to work in the pastoral training of the North Elbian Church , especially in the development and implementation of a homiletic-liturgical long-term training. The Theological Faculty of the University of Leipzig awarded him an honorary doctorate in 2009 . In the 2008/2009 winter semester he was a fellow at the Theological Research College in Erfurt . He is married and has two children and five grandchildren.
