Hans-Eckehard Bahr

Hans-Eckehard Bahr (born February 6, 1928 in Petershagen , Kolberg-Körlin district ; † February 6, 2019 ) was a German Protestant theologian and professor of practical theology .

Life

Hans-Eckehard Bahr was born in 1928 as the son of pastor Hans-Joachim Bahr (1895–2001) and Gertrud Bahr nee Schöne (1897–1992) in Petershagen / Kolberg-Körlin district. Growing up in Jassow near Cammin , he was drafted as an anti-aircraft helper in early 1944 when he was just under 16 . After his family had fled from the approaching Red Army, he passed his Abitur in Eckernförde in 1949 . He studied two semesters at the Düsseldorf Art Academy and served in the Foreign Legion in 1951 . After studying Protestant theology in Kiel and Heidelberg , Hans-Eckehard Bahr received his doctorate in Kiel with “Poiesis. Theological investigation of art "and completed his habilitation in Hamburg in 1965 with" Annunciation as Information. On public communication in a democratic society ”.

In 1966 he took over the chair for Christianity and Culture at the University of Chicago and worked for Martin Luther King . From 1966 to 1967 he was director of the Institute for Church Building and Church Art of the Present in Marburg . From 1967 to 1993 he was professor for practical theology at the Protestant Theological Faculty of the Ruhr University Bochum . In 1971 he became curator of the German Society for Peace and Conflict Research in Bonn. In 1982/83, Hans-Eckehard Bahr was an expert on the Bundestag Enquete Commission for “Youth Protest in the Democratic State”. For many years he led the research project "Youth Violence and Urban Peace" at the Ruhr University in Bochum. Hans-Eckehard Bahr participated in many radio broadcasts and published numerous books a. a. on church art, political theology as well as peace and conflict research .

Hans-Eckehard Bahr lived with his second wife Rosemari Ochs-Bahr in Bochum . He died in February 2019 on his 91st birthday.
