Peter Demetz-Fëur

Peter Demetz-Fëur (born June 28, 1913 in Ortisei in Val Gardena ; † November 1, 1977 there ) was a South Tyrolean landscape painter .

biography

The joy of painting arose from the painter Jacovino, who had his studio in the Demetz house. Peter Demetz-Fëur began his apprenticeship as a barrel painter with Luis Moroder-Vidalonch. He spent his military time in the Aosta Valley , where he was able to paint the carved wooden representations of alpine techniques for the Museum of the Scuola Militare di Alpinismo . During the National Socialist era , he exhibited several times at the Great German Art Exhibition in Munich , organized annually by the Nazi regime , most recently in 1943 with the Tempera picture early spring on the Alpe di Siusi. From 1943 he taught at the art schools in Selva and Ortisei for 32 years . He participated in the circle of artists and in the artist group Ruscel in Ortisei at annual exhibitions and was a member of the South Tyrolean Artists Association .

Works

His early works are influenced by the work of Gustav Jahn , whom Demetz held in high regard. Peter Demetz mainly painted mountain landscapes. Numerous old farmsteads in Val Gardena are documented in his pictures.

Several frescoes by Peter Demetz adorn house facades in Ortisei.

In Val Gardena Museum some works are exhibited by him.
