Peter Fernando

Peter Fernando (born March 22, 1939 in Idinthakarai ; † December 31, 2016 ) was an Indian clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Madurai .

Life

Peter Fernando was ordained a priest on May 31, 1971 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Coadjutor Bishop of Tuticorin on February 23, 1996 . The Archbishop of Madurai, Marianus Arokiasamy , donated him episcopal ordination on May 29 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Thomas Fernando , Bishop of Tiruchirapalli , and Siluvaimathu Teresanathan Amalnather , Bishop of Tuticorin.

With the resignation of Siluvaimathu Teresanathan Amalnathers on December 8, 1999, he succeeded him as Bishop of Tuticorin. On March 22, 2003 he was appointed Archbishop of Madurai by John Paul II.

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on July 26, 2014.
