Peter Horn (politician)

Peter Horn (born April 15, 1891 in Cologne , † June 26, 1967 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German politician ( center , CDU ).

Life and work

After elementary school , Horn attended a commercial training school and was a commercial clerk at the Cologne machine industry until 1924 . Afterwards he was a consultant on the executive board of the Association of Catholic Commercial Associations in Germany until 1936 . From 1928 until the National Socialists came to power in 1933, he also headed the association's political and parliamentary liaison office in Berlin . From 1937 Horn was managing director of the Barmer Ersatzkasse for Hessen.

Peter Horn was married to Gertrud Horn, née Nöthen and father of five children.

Political party

During the Weimar Republic , Horn belonged to the center. There he was first district group chairman in Cologne and later a member of the board of the center in the Berlin Reichstag constituency as well as district chairman in Berlin-Steglitz . He also headed the party's Rhenish employee advisory council and was second chairman of the Reich employee advisory council.

After 1945 Horn took part in the founding of the CDU. From 1947 he was chairman of the Frankfurt am Main district association .

MP

From 1946 to 1950 Horn was city councilor in Frankfurt and from 1947 chairman of the CDU parliamentary group in the city council assembly.

Horn was a member of the Economic Council from 1947 to 1949, where he was chairman of the committee for the post and telecommunications system and deputy chairman of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group. In 1950 he was a member of the Hessian state parliament for a few months .

Horn was a member of the German Bundestag from June 10, 1950, when he replaced Hans Schlange-Schöningen , until 1965. In 1953 and 1957 he was directly elected to parliament in the constituency of Frankfurt I and in 1961 via the Hessian state list of his party. He was the social policy spokesman for the CDU / CSU parliamentary group and belonged to the workers' group of the Union parliamentary group. As chairman of the parliamentary group's working group for social issues, he belonged to the group's inner committee from 1953 to 1961. 1957 to 1965 he was also deputy chairman of the Bundestag committee for social policy . He was particularly involved in the conception of child benefit .

Awards

In April 1958, Peter Horn received the Great Cross of Merit of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany from Federal President Theodor Heuss .

On June 30, 1958 Peter Horn was by Pope Pius XII. Knight of the Order of St. Appointed Pope's New Year's Eve , because Horn has “done well for the well-being and prosperity of the Church and the Catholic cause”.
