Life

Knuth grew up in Krefeld and joined the North Rhine-Westphalia police in 1964 , where he trained as a police officer . In 1972 he was appointed police commissioner and 1975 chief police commissioner in North Rhine-Westphalia . In the same year he began training as a paramedic and then a medical degree at the University in Dusseldorf . During this time he was often active in the ground and air rescue service .

After completing his studies, he began his specialist training in anesthesia in Krefeld in 1981. He continued to be very active in the ambulance service. Among other things, he wrote his dissertation on the effectiveness of the ground and air rescue services in the cities of Cologne and Düsseldorf. At the same time, he began studying at the University of Applied Sciences for Public Administration in North Rhine-Westphalia in Gelsenkirchen , which he graduated in 1985 with a degree in administrative management (FH). After his specialist certification, Knuth worked briefly as chief physician in Hammelburg before moving to the German Medical Association in 1986 as managing physician and head of the advanced training department .

Professional policy

At the German Medical Association, he set up the committee for "Emergency / Disaster Medicine and Sanitation", which still exists today, and contributed to the creation of the emergency medical service certificate as a basic qualification for emergency doctors as well as the basis for the position of medical director of the emergency medical service (ÄLRD) . He participated in the nationwide introduction of the chief emergency doctor in Germany and the development of standards and recommendations for further training. After the Ramstein flight conference in particular, there was a growing awareness in Germany that a medical management function at the location of the damage was necessary in the event of major damage. He was also significantly involved in the reform of the medical training regulations in 1992.

He was a co-founder of the German Advisory Council for First Aid and Resuscitation at the German Medical Association and the Federal Association of Working Groups of Emergency Doctors in Germany (BAND). In 1997 he changed to the professional association of German internists (BDI) as managing director , where in 2004 he changed to the position of general manager . Here he was instrumental in promoting the independence of the subjects of internal medicine and general medicine . As of December 31, 2005, he left this position.

He then worked as a freelance journalist. In 2007 he began studying law at the Hagen Open University .
