Peter Müller

Peter Müller (born July 19, 1640 in Nordhausen ; † May 31, 1696 in Gera ) was a German legal scholar. He taught at the University of Jena from 1676 to 1693, where he was the rector's office twice. From 1693 until his death he was Chancellor of Count Reuss .

Life

Peter was the son of the town clerk in Nordhausen Andreas Müller and his wife Catharina Barbara, the daughter of Nicolai Rudolph. After attending school in Nordhausen, he moved to Jena University on February 29, 1656. Here he initially completed philosophical studies and began studying law. He also attended the lectures by Erasmus Ungebaur , Christoph Philipp Richter , Georg Adam Struve and Ernst Friedrich Schröter . In 1658 Müller defended two papers at the University of Erfurt under Johann Hermann von Sode (1633–1702) and had followed the lectures of Hulderich von Eyben at the University of Giessen .

After completing his studies, he became the syndic of Bleicherode and Lora in 1663 . In 1667 he acquired his licentiate at the University of Helmstedt under Heinrich Hahn (1605–1668) with the inaugural de Foro Protestantium in indiciis Ecclesiasticis and in the same year 1667 received his doctorate in law. After returning to Nordhausen in 1670 he was given a position as a councilor for the Counts of Stolberg in Stolberg , in 1676 was given an extraordinary professorship in law at the Jena University and in 1680 took over the full professorship of the institutes there. Associated with this, he became an assessor at the court court and the Schöppenstuhl. In the course of time he rose to the professorship of pandects, feudal feudal feudal law, novellas and the second professorship of constitutional law.

As a university teacher at Salana, he also took part in the organizational tasks of the educational institution. He was dean of the Faculty of Law six times and rector of the alma mater in the summer semesters of 1682 and 1688 . He had also taken part in various political events as a deputy of the Jena landscape, became a princely Saxon councilor and became a member of the Fruitful Society under the name “Der Treumeinende” . In 1693 he followed a call as Chancellor of the joint government of Count Reuss von Plauen to Gera, where he took the oath of office on December 13, 1693, and was associated with the supervisor of the local high school Rutheneum , where he taught as a professor of law, and present tense of the Gera Consistory. He held these offices until his unexpected death on May 31, 1696.
