Peter Madsen (born July 19, 1955 in Racine , Wisconsin ) is an American jazz pianist.

Life

Madsen began studying classical piano at the age of 8, and two years later also double bass. At the age of 13 he was interested in jazz. After high school he attended the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, where he successfully completed his music education training. He moved to Minneapolis to focus entirely on jazz piano playing.

Two years later, Peter Madsen went to New York City . In 1987 he got the chance to tour the USA and Europe with Stan Getz . Since then, Peter Madsen has played with many different greats in the jazz scene, including Mario Pavone , Stan Getz, Kiyoto Fujiwara , Michael Musillami , Dan Rose and Matt Wilson .

He tours all over the world and has already released over 120 albums and written more than 500 compositions. For some years now, Madsen has lived partly in New York City and partly in Lauterach . He teaches master classes and private students (including David Helbock ) and gives workshops at the jazz seminar in Dornbirn .

In 2010 he headed the Grenzfluss Worldjazz Festival, with a total of eight events at different venues in the districts of Perg and Amstetten in the Upper and Lower Austrian border region.
