Peter Utzig (born August 25, 1944 in Germany ; † July 23, 2015 ) was a German football player . The offensive player played ten league games at Borussia Neunkirchen in the 1965/66 season in the Bundesliga .

Career

Utzig played at Borussia Neunkirchen as a youth and was first used by coach Horst Buhtz in the senior division in the 1963/64 season. Utzig completed two games in the second -rate regional soccer league Southwest in the 1963/64 season. The talent from within its own ranks debuted on March 22, 1964 in a 2-0 away win at Sportfreunde Saarbrücken - with the young center forward Johannes Löhr - in the Borussia league team. He formed the left wing of the future Southwest Champion on the half left with Günter Kuntz on the left winger in the World Cup system at that time . One game day later, on March 28th, he made his second appearance in a 5-0 away win at ASV Landau. With Elmar May , Karl Ringel , Heinz Simmet and Kuntz, he formed the attack of the black and white on the half-left. The Borussia surprisingly prevailed in the Bundesliga promotion round and were promoted to the Bundesliga. In the promotion round, however, coach Buhtz had done without Utzig, this was also the case in the following Bundesliga round in 1964/65. It was only in the second Bundesliga year, 1965/66, that the hour struck for the young offensive player: From the 22nd matchday onwards, he played ten more games for Borussia in the Bundesliga .

In addition to top performers such as Werner Görts , Günter Heiden , Günter Kuntz, Dieter Schock , Günter Schröder and Heinz Simmet, he ran in the games against 1. FC Nürnberg (1: 3), Hannover 96 (1: 0), 1. FC Kaiserslautern ( 0: 0), VfB Stuttgart (1: 2), MSV Duisburg (0: 1), 1.FC Cologne (2: 1), Werder Bremen (2: 5), 1860 Munich (1: 9), Eintracht Braunschweig ( 1: 0) and Tasmannia 1900 Berlin (1: 2), but could not prevent relegation to the Regionalliga Südwest with his teammates with 24:44 points. He experienced a debacle against the Munich “Löwen” on April 16, 1966: With 9-1 goals, the team of coach Max Merkel prevailed against a defensive Borussia in the Ellenfeldstadion . In the Bundesliga chronicle 1965/66 it is noted: “Great Munich inner storm. The grade one for the entire Munich inner trio Peter Grosser , Friedhelm Konietzka and Hans Küppers - that alone makes it clear where the biggest difference was between the two teams ”. Even in his last Bundesliga game, on May 21, 1966, at the away game against the defeated Tasmania 1900 Berlin, the negative experience prevailed. Tasmania prevailed 2-1 with goals from Lothar Zeh and Wolfgang Neumann and was thus able to celebrate the second success of the season, in front of 2,000 spectators. The first success of the season of Tas dated from the start of the round against Karlsruher SC on August 14, 1965, when attacker Wulf-Ingo Usbeck scored two goals in front of 81,000 spectators.

Utzig went with Borussia in the Regionalliga Südwest, but was unable to secure a regular place in the second division due to the quality of the newcomers such as Peter Czernotzky , Wolfgang Gayer , Erich Hermesdorf , Ludwig Lang and Hans Linsenmaier under the new coach Zeljko Cajkovski . He was only used in the two home wins against VfR Frankenthal on September 19, 1966 (3-0, a goal from Utzig) and against southwest Ludwigshafen on April 24, 1967 (2-0). For the 1967/68 season he joined the Regionalliga climber SC Friedrichsthal , where he especially hoped for increased stakes.

This was then also the case under the ex-Neunkirchner Dieter Harig as coach, but with 21:39 points the relegation did not succeed. Utzig had played in 26 regional league games at the side of Gerd Flick and Walter Spohr in the 1967/68 season and had scored six goals. In the second year in Friedrichsthal, 1968/69, he celebrated the championship in the 1st Amateur League Saarland and after the promotion round against ASV Landau and SSV Mülheim the immediate return to the Regionalliga Südwest. In the second regional league year with Friedrichsthal, 1969/70, two games against his home club Borussia Neunkirchen were on the round schedule: In the first half of the season, the game in Neunkirchen was lost 0-1, in the second half of the season, the former Bundesliga club was linked on February 1, 1970 3: 3 home draw. With a 3: 5 away defeat on May 16, 1970, Utzig and his teammates at Saar 05 Saarbrücken in 16th place ended the regional league season and were relegated back to the Saarland amateur league. The midfielder had scored six goals for the relegated player in 27 league appearances.

Between 1963 and 1970, Utzig played ten Bundesliga and 57 regional league games (13 goals).
