Peter of Maydell

Baron Peter Magnus Friedrich von Maydell (born October 25, jul. / 6. November  1819 greg. In Moisama , † September 6 jul. / 18th September  1884 greg. In St. Petersburg ) was a doctor and reformer of the medical service of St. Petersburg.

Life

Peter von Maydell was a member of the Estonian noble family von Maydell . His parents were the Russian naval officer and heir to Moisama and Tatters Baron Gustav von Maydell (1772–1856) and Wilhelmine (Minna) von Brümmer adH Restfer (1794–1861).

Career

Maydell studied medicine in Dorpat from 1838 to 1843 as a crown scholarship holder . In 1843 he was the youngest doctor on the Russian Border Commission in Orenburg . In 1845 he took part in a diplomatic expedition in Turan and in 1848 was a city doctor in Orenburg. In 1849 he was with the Inaugural - Dissertation published magazine "nonnulla topographiae medicae Orenburgensis spectantia" to Dr. med. PhD . From 1851 to 1852 ordinator at the temporary women's hospital and at the hospital of the Izmajlow Guard Regiment in St. Petersburg. From 1852 to 1853 he was counted in the Medical Department of the Ministry of the Interior. He was employed as a senior physician at the city hospital in Tambow in 1853 and was then medical inspector in Orel until 1864 . Eventually he became the City Physician of St. Petersburg. Here it fell to the task of a complete reform of the medical system.

Maydell toured Germany , England , France , Belgium and Switzerland on behalf of the government in 1865 . In the following year he was inspector of the St. Petersburg Medical Administration and from 1866 to 1881 director of the Count's Kuselew nursing home in St. Petersburg. From 1866 he was also president of the board of directors and honorary curator of the evangelical hospital ibid. After all, Maydell was also allowed to fill the position of vice-president of the St. Petersburg prison committee from 1881. In 1876 and 1878 he was a deputy of the Russian government at the hygiene congresses in Brussels and Paris.

Maydell was a privy councilor and received the Stanislaus Order, First Class .

family

Maydell married Alma von Pistohlkors adH Ruttigfer (1833–1904) in Reval in 1852 . The son of Baron Woldemar von Maydell (1855-1905), Russian artillery colonel and Livonian district administrator, emerged from the marriage.
