Peter von Suhm

Peter von Suhm (* March 8, 1696 , † February 14, 1760 ) was a lieutenant general and secret war councilor from the Electorate of Saxony .

family

Peter von Suhm came from the Danish aristocratic family Suhm and was a son of the royal Polish and Electoral Saxon secret war and chamber councilor Burchard von Suhm (1666-1720) and the Gesilla von Brüggemann (1672-1711). He was married to Eva Magdalene von Mohrungen (1706–1760) since 1722. The marriage resulted in four daughters and six sons.

Life

Suhm first served in the War of Spanish Succession in 1708 with his uncle Ernst Heinrich von Suhm in Brabant , became an ensign in the Oldenburg battalion in 1709 and took part in the siege and capture of Douay from May 2 to June 26, 1710 . In 1710 he moved to the Guard Battalion in Brabant, but returned to the Oldenburg Infantry Regiment in 1714.

In 1715 Suhm became company commander in the Saxon army and in 1719 lieutenant colonel and adjutant general to Count Flemming . In 1734 he was promoted to colonel of the infantry. In the same year he served as the Privy Council of War. In 1746 he was promoted to major general of the infantry and was a deputy in the College of the Secret War Council. Finally, in 1755, Suhm was raised to the rank of lieutenant general.

Fourth among the founding members of the Aux trois Aigles Freemason Lodge in Dresden was a secret war council v. Called Suhm. Since his father had already died, his brother Ulrich Friedrich von Suhm had been envoy to Russia since 1736 and his brother Nicolaus von Suhm did not take up this office until 1747, it must be assumed that it was Peter von Suhm.
