Petra Hess
Petra Heß (born March 27, 1959 in Reichenbach im Vogtland ) is a German politician ( SPD ). She was a member of the Thuringian state parliament from 1999 to 2002 and a member of the German Bundestag from 2002 to 2009 . From October 2010 to April 2015 she worked as a foreigner commissioner in the Thuringian Ministry of Social Affairs, Family and Health .
Life and work
After graduating from a polytechnic high school (POS) in Erfurt in 1975, Petra Heß attended the pedagogical college for kindergarten teachers in Gotha until 1978 . She then worked as a kindergarten teacher until 1987 . From 1987 to 1991 she worked as a cultural advisor and finally from 1991 to 1999 she worked for a member of the Bundestag. After leaving the Bundestag , she has been the owner of a consulting company in Berlin since 2009. From October 1, 2010 to April 2015, she was the Foreigners Commissioner of the Free State of Thuringia. One of her goals in her function as the commissioner for foreigners was to rename the title “commissioner for foreigners” to “commissioner for integration ”.
In September 2015 it was announced that Petra Hess, who had meanwhile sued the Thuringian Ministry of Social Affairs, Family and Health for continued employment, is to be given a new post. SPD state chief Bausewein is campaigning for a new job in the Thuringian state representation in Berlin, which Petra Heß then received in September 2016.
After losing to Tankred Schipanski for the third time in the 2017 general election , Hess announced that she would now withdraw from politics.
Petra Heß is married and has a son, she lives in Crawinkel .
Political party
She joined the SPD in 1990 and has been a member of the SPD state executive in Thuringia since 1991 .
In 1995 she caused a sensation when she called on Oskar Lafontaine after his militant speech from the lectern at the Mannheim party congress to run for the party chairmanship and thus to overthrow Rudolf Scharping , which Lafontaine did successfully.
From 1997 to 2008 she was deputy SPD state chairwoman. From 2008 to 2014 she was chairwoman of the SPD district association Gotha . From 2014 to 2018 she was treasurer of the SPD Thuringia.
Petra Hess is not without controversy within the party. After she had spoken out against an asylum seeker home in her hometown Crawinkel during her tenure as a foreigner commissioner, the Jusos Thuringia distanced themselves in an open letter.
When drawing up the state list of the Thuringian SPD for the 2017 federal election , the delegates chose Petra Hess only in fourth place, although the state executive had earmarked her for the promising second place. She lost this to the politically inexperienced Elisabeth Kaiser , for whom several speakers at the party congress had spoken out in favor. Since the SPD only got three seats in Thuringia, Hess failed to get into the Bundestag; Even as a direct candidate for the Bundestag constituency Gotha - Ilm district , she won no mandate.
MPs
From 1999 to 2002 Petra Heß was a member of the Thuringian state parliament and was chairwoman of the committee for social affairs, family and health.
She was a member of the German Bundestag from 2002 to 2009 and was a full member of the Defense Committee and the Sports Committee and a deputy member of the Petitions Committee . She was also a member of the leadership of the Seeheimer Kreis . Petra Hess regularly completes military exercises and holds the rank of frigate captain of the reserve .
Petra Heß had entered the Bundestag as a directly elected member of the constituency Gotha - Ilm-Kreis . In the 2005 Bundestag election , it received 37.2% of the first votes . In the 2009 Bundestag election , she lost her direct mandate to Tankred Schipanski . The fourth place on the state list was not enough to move into the Bundestag again, as the SPD could only win three seats in Thuringia. In the 2013 Bundestag election , too , it did not make it into the Bundestag with 25% of the votes.
In September 2012 it became known that in April 2009, Hess had accepted a donation of 3,000 euros from the armaments company Heckler & Koch through the district association of the SPD Gotha . This was viewed critically by the public, as Hess was a member of the Defense Committee , which among other things dealt with the arming of the Bundeswehr . She admitted that accepting the donation was a mistake. Hess justified the action by stating that election campaigns were expensive and that the party had urged them to raise funds. “Everyone does it like that. You ask who you know, ”said the politician.
In the course of the so-called “ Montblanc Affair ”, it became known in 2016 that Petra Heß ordered four pens worth almost 600 euros at state expense shortly before the end of her parliamentary term.
She is the chairman of the prison advisory board of the juvenile detention center Ichtershausen and a member of various cultural and social associations, such as B. Arbeiterwohlfahrt , Feuerwehrverein Crawinkel, European Academy Arnstadt, Tivoli-Verein Gotha and the Board of Trustees of the Liebfrauenkirche Arnstadt . At the end of 2008 she took over the tunnel sponsorship for the Tragberg tunnel .
