Petra Thorbrietz

Petra Thorbrietz (* 1954 in Munich ) is a German journalist and author .

Live and act

Petra Thorbrietz studied communication science , political science , sociology and history at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . In 1980 she obtained her master's degree and an editor's degree from the German School of Journalism . From 1980 to 1983 she was a research assistant at the Institute for Communication Science at the University of Munich, where she worked on networked thinking in journalism in 1984 . Journalistic communication deficits using the example of ecology and environmental protection for Dr. rer. pole. received his doctorate .

She then worked as a freelance journalist for radio and television. Among other things, she was editor of the magazines “ natur ” and “ Wochenpost ” as well as director and screenwriter for ORF and the Hungarian TV station MTV . From 1993 she was head of department and from 1996 reporter at the magazine Die Woche , to whose founding editorial team she was part.

Petra Thorbrietz was a lecturer at the universities of Vienna , Leipzig and Graz . She also worked as an author for the magazines Geo , Focus-Schule and Chrismon as well as the Greenpeace magazine . For “Focus online” she wrote the column Petra Thorbrietz 'Last Questions .

In 2004 her husband János Pásztory died of cancer. One year later she ended her professional career as deputy editor-in-chief of the Focus-Schule magazine. For two years she researched technical, social and religious problems in connection with death and spoke to doctors, relatives and theologians about this topic. This resulted in her book Life to the End. Saying goodbye and dying with dignity .
