Petro Hawrylowytsch Lebedynzew ( Ukrainian Петро Гаврилович Лебединцев , Russian Пётр Гаврилович Лебединцев Pyotr Gavrilovich Lebedinzew * December 21, 1819 . Jul / 2. January  1820 greg. In Selena Dibrova , Kiev Governorate , Russian Empire ; † December 3 jul. / 15th December  1896 greg. In Kiev , Kyiv Governorate, Russian Empire) was a Ukrainian historian, archaeologist, journalist, teacher and religious leader.

Life

Petro Lebedynzew was born in Selena Dibrowa in what is now Horodyschtsche Rajon of the Ukrainian Oblast of Cherkassy as the son of a priestly family.

He received his training first at the Theological Seminary in Bohuslaw , which he completed in 1833. He then studied at the Kiev Theological Academy until 1839 and graduated from the Kiev Theological Seminary in 1843 as the best student in the city of Kiev . From 1843 to 1845 he taught literature and related subjects at the theological seminary in Oryol . After admission as a doctoral student in theology, he received the post of professor and assistant-inspector and secretary of the seminary. From the spring of 1845 to 1851 he taught French and German at the chair for logic and psychology at the Kiev Theological Seminary . In 1851 he was ordained a priest in Bila Tserkwa, where he was a teacher at the local high school. On May 21, Jul. / June 2,  1860 greg. he became a priest of St. Mary's Assumption Cathedral in the central Kiev district of Podil and taught at the 2nd Kiev high school until 1868.

After the arrival of the remains of Taras Shevchenko, known to him from his childhood, in Kiev, after obtaining permission from the spiritual authority, he led jul. / May 18,  1861 greg. the procession for him and led the day after in the Church of the Nativity of Christ , in which Shevchenko's coffin was laid out, the memorial service before the coffin was transported to Kaniw for burial .

On June 17th, Jul. / June 29,  1861 greg. he was given the honorary title of archpriest . From January 1862 on he was a co-founder and for a period of 15 years editor and editor of the newspaper Kievan Diocesan Reports . In 1863 the spiritual girls' school he directed moved into the Klow Palace, which had previously been renovated with his help, and in the same year he became a member of the Kiev Spiritual Consistory . From July 18, 1868 he was archpriest of the Kiev Cathedral of St. Sophia , which was restored in the Byzantine style during his tenure .

Lebedynzew was a founding member of the Historical Society of Nestor the Chronicler and a member of the Odessa Society of History and Antiquities . In 1893 he became an honorary member of St. Vladimir University . He was also an honorary member of the Kiev Theological Academy , the Moscow Archaeological Society and the Orthodox Palestine Society . He published a large number of articles and works on church-historical and historical-archaeological research.

Lebedynzew died in Kiev at the age of 76 and was buried there in the Shchekavytske cemetery .

Petro Lebedynzew was the older brother of the church leader, teacher and author Andrij Lebedynzew ( Андрій Гаврилович Лебединцев ; 1826–1903) as well as of Feofan Lebedynzew ( Феофан, 18 Л18 Гаврилевевич ), a well-known journalist, writer, activist, writer, 18 Л18 Гаврилевевич , a well-known writer, journalist, 18-18 Л18 Гаврилевевич , a well-known journalist, writer, 18 Л18 Гаврилевевич . The brothers were all born in Selena Dibrowa.
