In 1561 he translated the Confessio Bohemica into German. In addition, he was involved in an expanded, elaborately typographically designed edition of the German Brethren hymn book , which was briefly set and laid out in Eibenschütz in 1566 under the title Die Heubtartickel des Christian Faith . 93 songs were written by Herbert, 42 of which were translated from Czech. His songs Praise, Praise and Thanks be to God the Lord ( EG 245) and The night is coming, we should rest in it (EG 471, Max Reger composed a well-known movement for this ) as well as the passion song Jesus Kreuz, Leiden, which he translated from the Czech and Pein (EG 78) are still part of the evangelical songs.
