Pfaffenberg is a cadastral municipality and a village in the market town of Obervellach in Austria.
Cadastral municipality Pfaffenberg
The cadastral municipality of Pfaffenberg is the largest in terms of area in the market municipality of Obervellach and takes up the entire eastern part of the municipality. The cadastral community includes the localities Kaponig, Pfaffenberg, Stallhofen, Leutschach, Untergratschach, Obergratschach and Stampf.
Pfaffenberg village
The village of Pfaffenberg is a scattered settlement with 60 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) on the mountain slope of the same name on the southwest side above the Mölltal , where agriculture (mainly cattle and sheep farming ) is largely still practiced . There is an agricultural community -Neighbourhood Pfaffenberg, several Bringungs- / Güterweggemeinschaften, a power plant community and a traditional association "The Pfaffenberger".
Pfaffenberg is divided into three parts by trenches:
- The eastern part between the Zwenberggraben and the Schlossgraben is called "Klabåch" (Klarbach) by the Pfaffenbergers, or "Pfaffenberg-Ost".
- The middle part - located under the Tauern railway line between Schlossgraben and Lindischgraben - is officially called "Mitterberg", "Pfaffenberg-Mitte".
- The middle and western part between Schlossgraben and Kaponiggraben above the Tauern Railway is called "Groaßbåch" (Großbach), officially "Pfaffenberg-West".
The four largest streams on and around the Pfaffenberg are the Kaponigbach in the far west, the Lindischgrabenbach, the Gratschacherbach and the Zwenbergbach in the east.
The Tauernbahn runs for about 5 km along the Pfaffenberg. With several engineering structures, the route over the Pfaffenberg is one of the most interesting in railway construction . Since the two-track expansion of the Tauern line, the appearance of the Pfaffenberg has been shaped by the Falkenstein Bridge, among other things .
The biggest social event on the Pfaffenberg is the Pfaffenberger Kirchtag on the second Sunday in October every year at the Johanneskirche (Oberfalkenstein). The ruins of Oberfalkenstein and Falkenstein Castle are also located on Pfaffenberg and in the Pfaffenberg cadastral community.
The Pfaffenberger Almen with the Pfaffenberger Lakes were incorporated into the Hohe Tauern National Park in 2005 . The Triestenspitze rises above Pfaffenberg at 2929 m above sea level. A. and the Gröneck at 2691 m above sea level. A. auf, summit of the Reisseck group in the Hohe Tauern .
