The Pfaffenrod near Schmitten in the Hessian Hochtaunuskreis is 596.2  m above sea level. NHN high mountain in the eastern Hintertaunus , part of the German low mountain range Taunus . In older topographical maps the elevation is called Pfaffenberg .

Geographical location

The Pfaffenrod is located in the south of the Schmitten district , about 1000 meters south of the town center, in the Taunus Nature Park . Basically, it is the northern sub-peak of a mountain ridge, which extends in a north-south direction to about 1500 meters in length and 320 meters south of the sub-peak in the unspecified main peak reaches a height of 611  m .

The valley floor between Sängelberg (left the foothills with Hattstein Castle ) and Pfaffenrod (right); in the middle on the horizon the horse's head , in front of it the eastern branch of the Judenkopf .

Seen from Schmitten, the Pfaffenberg divides the valleys to the south-west and south-east. Its northwest flank forms the valley of the Weil , which leads to Niederreifenberg and on to the Taunus Pass Red Cross . The eastern flank forms the valley of the Krötenbach with the Schmitten district of Arnoldshain . In the west, the Pfaffenrod is separated from the Sängelberg by the valley floor . It is a valley that leads from the high-altitude weekend settlement Galgenfeld , on the northern slope of the Dillenberg , to the north of the Weil region.

Natural allocation

The Pfaffenrod belongs in the natural spatial main unit group Taunus (No. 30) and in the main unit Eastern Hintertaunus (302) to the subunit Pferdskopf-Taunus (302.6).

Traffic and walking

A hiking trail that is marked with a red deer runs around the Pfaffenrod. The Leyhäuschen, a small refuge, is located above Schmitten.
