The Roman Catholic parish church of Gampern is located in Gampern in the municipality of Gampern in the Vöcklabruck district in Upper Austria . The church consecrated to St. Remigius belongs to the Deanery Schörfling in the Diocese of Linz . The church and the cemetery are under monument protection .

history

Gampern and its surroundings were evangelized by the Salzburg Abbey of St. Peter and later by the Mondsee and Mattsee Abbey . Gampern was a parish in Mattsee until 1900. In 1383 a church was mentioned in a document.

The late Gothic church was built with the master builder Stephan Wultinger, the choir in 1486, the nave from 1490 to 1515, the tower up to the roof level in several stages (1515, 1518, 1529). In 1890 the tower was expanded to a height of 63 m.

architecture

The two - aisled, three - bay nave with a ribbed vault with octagonal stars is followed by a three-bay with a three- eighth end with a ribbed vault with the Wechselberg figuration . In 1950 late Gothic vault frescos were added to St. Remigius and evangelist symbols from the end of the 15th century exposed. The mighty west tower has a new pointed helmet. The late Gothic barred north portal has a groin vaulted vestibule. On the northern choir wall is a richly profiled late Gothic tabernacle with pinnacles .

Furnishing

The high altar as an important late Gothic winged altar is probably an early work by the Hallstatt winged altar master Lienhart Astl , created around 1490 to 1500. An inscription panel on the back gives the year 1507.

The Passau canon and later cathedral provost Wilhelm IV von Nothracht is documented as the founder of the late Gothic convertible altar, whose portrait with a coat of arms is immortalized on the panel depicting Christ in the temple. The painting of the back in the fully developed Danube School style proves the donors' understanding of art.

When the altar is open, the crowned Madonna is in the shrine as Queen of Heaven with the baby Jesus in her arms, flanked by the patron saint Remigius and St. See the Pantaleon. The wing reliefs show the proclamation, the visitation, the birth of Christ and the presentation in the temple from the Christmas festival.

When the altar is closed, scenes of the Passion - Mount of Olives, Ecce Homo, Carrying of the Cross and the Crucifixion are shown. Saints Leonhard, Sebastian and Dionysius can be seen on the left, Christophorus, Pantaleon and Ursula on the right. These pictures correspond to engravings by Michael Wolgemut , Dürer's teacher , and Martin Schongauer .

In the middle of the burst are St. Remigius, on the left St. Pantaleon, on the right St. Sebastian, outside St. Catherine and St. Barbara and at the very top the risen One, at his side Mary and John the Evangelist.

On the back of the altar is the popularly known  Gamperner Hell , an impressive depiction of the Last Judgment with Christ as the judge of the world. On the one hand Peter lets the good into heaven, on the other side of the picture on the right, devils throw the damned into hell's jaws.

The so-called '' Piesdorfer Madonna '', which is said to have been made in 1485 and shows similarities to the Madonna of the winged altar, is also late Gothic. It was transferred from the Piesdorf branch church to the parish church in 1936.

The modern tabernacle shows the four cherubs in the middle fields and the twelve apostles in the outer fields in personal encounter with Christ, created by the metal sculptor Hanns Angerbauer (1957).
