The Roman Catholic parish church Henndorf stands elevated above the place, surrounded by a cemetery and a wall, in the municipality of Henndorf am Wallersee in the province of Salzburg . The parish church of St. Vitus belongs to the deanery Köstendorf in the archdiocese of Salzburg . The church is a listed building .

history

Remains of the previous buildings of the church were excavated in 1976, the first church was a wooden church probably a Bavarian village, the second church, a Romanesque hall church , the third church a Gothic and documented two-nave church with a preserved western tower. From 1792 to 1797 today's church was built according to the plans of the court mason Johann Georg Laschenzky and consecrated in 1825. The church was elevated to a parish church in 1867 . Restorations were 1946/1947 (inside), 1960 (inside), 1969/1970 (outside), 1976 (inside), 1982 (outside).

architecture

The west tower presented is a Gothic tower on Romanesque foundations. The tower has four storeys set off with coffin cornices, the bell storey has differently beveled sound windows , and a baroque clock storey top with a cornice from 1717/1718 and closes with a pyramid helmet between corner pyramids from 1852. The originally closed tower ground floor was south with a portal and a baroque Provided the porch with a square vault. An equipment room was added to the north of the tower in the 19th century.

The nave as a uniform structure uses the Gothic core, the north western wall with the portal to the tower and the north nave wall. The north and south walls of the nave continue in line with the two-storey sacristy and oratory annexes to the side . The strongly recessed choir protrudes from the sacristy annexes to the east with a triangular closure and has a Gothic pointed arch portal with a shod door from the old core to the southern sacristy. The nave and choir have bevelled arched windows and a surrounding eaves. The nave has rectangular portals chamfered on both sides from the Gothic core in the first yoke. The door leaves have lock fittings from 1797. In the apex of the choir in the stucco frame field is a carved crucifix from 1873. There is a tombstone from 1806.

The tower ground floor has a barrel vault. The wide, wide three-bay nave has heavily squeezed barrels on double belts, which cross each other in a loop and continue in coupled pilasters in front of wall pillars. The year 1794 is given on the strongly drawn-in triumphal arch with pillar-like pilasters. The substantially drawn-in single-bay choir with a semicircular apse has barrels of needle cap over belts on pilasters. The Gothic tower portal is chamfered and ogival. The floor of the church is covered with red marble slabs. In the west yoke is a double gallery. The lower gallery stands on Tuscan stone columns and has a flat ceiling decorated with stucco frames and shows scenes from the Old Testament in the parapet medallions from around 1870/1880. The staggered upper gallery stands on baluster pillars. In the choir, the vestibule portals show themselves with stucco profile and panel-style doors and above with oratorio balconies. The ceiling painting from around 1870/1880 shows the baptism of Christ, Good Shepherd, Last Supper, and Sacred Heart in the middle panels, and church fathers, princes of the apostles and evangelists in the stitch caps.

Furnishing

The furniture is marbled. The high altar from 1816/17 with a free-standing canteen and a back wall with a tabernacle niche seals off the apse with sacrificial passage portals. At the top of the apse is a double columned aedicle with a segmented arched cornice with an attica- shaped volute . The high altar shows the altar sheet St. Veit by the painter Josef Gold (1872) and carries the side figures of St. Maria Magdalena, Johannes Evangelist from the early 18th century. The altar candlesticks are from 1825. The right side altar is largely from the 17th century and was taken from the former branch church of St. Ulrich in Fenning transferred here. It shows the altarpiece Maria Immaculata from the second quarter of the 18th century, in the excerpt picture St. Ulrich from the end of the 17th century, and carries the statues of St. Joseph, Barbara from the early 18th century. The left side altar around 1809 was adapted to the right side altar. It shows the altar sheet Crucifixion of Christ by the painter Josef Rattensperger (1854).

The round pulpit from 1797 has steep volutes and a plate structure. There are baroque carved figures of St. Sebastian and Anna with Maria from the early 18th century. The triumphal crucifix is ​​from the first half of the 18th century. The niche statues Man of Sorrows and Our Lady of Sorrows are from the 2nd half of the 18th century. A statuette of the risen is from the 18th century.

There are late baroque set figures from the Mount of Olives scene . The neo-Romanesque marble font is from the second half of the 19th century.

The organ was built by Mauracher (1870). Josef Erhart (1500) cast a bell.
