The Roman Catholic parish church in Kirchbach is dedicated to St. Martin . The parish in Kirchbach was first mentioned in a document in 1296.

Building description

The church was probably built in 1508 and changed to Baroque style in the 18th century . The renovation of 1768/69 goes back to the Lienz builder Thomas Mayr . The medium-sized complex consists of a single-nave, three-bay nave and a retracted choir with a three-eighth end. On the south side there is a sacristy extension between the choir and the nave . The tower on the north side of the nave has biforic sound windows on the bell floor and is crowned by a baroque onion helmet with a lantern . Josef Grassmayr cast a bell in 1760 . The church facade is structured by double bars and high windows with clover-leaf arches. The west facade has a volute gable . A Sacred Heart figure is painted in the central niche, and the princes of the apostles Peter and Paul in the side niches .

In the nave, a shallow barrel with stitch caps rests on pilaster-clad pillars. The west gallery swinging forward in the middle part is decorated with late baroque stucco ornamentation. The windows on the south wall of the nave were re-glazed in 1930 and show the Annunciation and Christ on the Mount of Olives . The chronogram on the segmented triumphal arch indicates the year of renovation 1718. A barrel vault with stitch caps rises above pilasters in the choir. There is a sacrament niche on the north wall of the choir . The late baroque ceiling fresco was created by Josef Köfler from Oberdrauburg in 1769 . They represent the coronation of Mary in the choir and Saints Martin and James major in the nave .

Facility

The furnishings of the church were created by Joseph and Martin Köfler. The high altar , which was built around 1700, is framed in black and gold and consists of a staggered columned pedicle with a split segment gable and top. There are open arcades of columns above the two sacrificial portals . The middle picture shows St. Martin sharing his coat. The statues of the plague saints Sebastian and Rochus are located above the sacrificial portals . The top niche contains the figure of the risen Christ. The top of the altar is a sculpture of God the Father.

The left side altar, made around 1700, has a renewed central image of Maria Immaculata and St. Joseph of Nazareth in the upper image .

The right side altar from the middle of the 17th century shows the Trinity with Christ crucified in the main picture and Anna herself third in the upper picture . The figures of Saints Joseph and John Nepomuk are on the side . The altar is crowned with a figural representation of the battle of the Archangel Michael with Satan .

The rococo pulpit from 1773/74 shows the Good Shepherd on the back wall . The Gothic baptismal font has a late Baroque baptismal group on the top . The console figures of the Jesuit saints Ignatius and Franz Xavier are placed on the triumphal arch . The Stations of the Cross are from the late baroque period. The grave slab of Bartelmä Farb from 1540 can also be seen in the church.

Cemetery portals

The frescoes on the southeastern cemetery gate are marked 1474 (6) and show Tyrolean influence. Saint Martin is shown with two beggars, above them an angel holding a bishop's cap. The saints Achatius , Ursula , John the Baptist and Rochus are depicted in the canopy niches painted on the side .

The Lamentation of Christ at the southwest cemetery gate was made around 1700.
