history

In 1875 the parish of Thal was established and in the course of this the current parish church was rebuilt by Gebhard Ehrlacher between 1875 and 1878 according to plans by Johann Mayer. In the course of an interior restoration in 1922, the interior of the church was decorated by Anton Marte .

architecture

Exterior

The church has a simple plastered facade with buttresses . The four-storey church tower has a pointed helmet and stands in the southern corner of the choir.

Interior

Above the nave there are segmented arched barrels with stitch caps connected by belt arches that rest on pilasters . The most easterly of the four bays is enlarged by the width of a wall like a transept. To the west is a wooden organ, including the main portal. There is a simple side portal in each of the long walls. A semicircular closed triumphal arch separates the drawn-in and vaulted choir from the nave. The choir, consisting of a front yoke and semicircular apse , is five steps higher than the nave. Both in the nave and the choir, the church windows are divided into two parts and closed with a rounded arch. The ornamental paintings are by Anton Marte from 1922.

The stained glass on the windows are partly ornamental and figural. The glasses created in 1877 are partly ornamental and partly figural. St. John , the Heart of Jesus , St. Gottlieb and St. Martin are figuratively represented .

Furnishing

The altars were built around 1878 according to plans by Joseph Stadelmann . The high altar is a three-part structure of gable niches with a dome-like crown and pinnacles . The altarpiece by Melchior Paul von Deschwanden from 1878 shows the " Resurrection of Jesus Christ ". This is flanked by figures of Saints Peter and Paul . On the back of the main altar these are labeled "Röthenlack Kempten".

The side altars are a little simpler and consist of a one-piece altar structure with a gable niche for the altar leaves. The picture on the left shows the scene “ Visitation of the Virgin Mary ” by Melchior Paul Deschwanden from 1879 and that of St. Franz Xavier at the baptism, also by Deschwanden from 1879. The pulpit is decorated with statues of the four evangelists . These come from the hand of Anton Rüscher from around 1880. The confessionals, as well as the pictures of the Stations of the Cross, come from the construction period, the prayer benches have been replaced in the meantime. In 1896 Jakob Bertle painted the fasting pictures .

The organ from 1885 was built by Anton Behmann , and in 1922 it was rebuilt.
