The Pfudabach , also the Pfuda , is a right tributary of the Pram in the Innviertel in Upper Austria .

course

The Pfudabach rises as Aubach near Mitteredt (municipality of Kopfing in the Innkreis ) below the Ameisberg in the Sauwald . It flows roughly in a southerly direction, at Angsüß it turns to the west, shortly afterwards again to the south. It then flows in a loop around Sigharting , then north-west until it joins the Pram at Taufkirchen an der Pram .

Water flow

The mean discharge at the Alfersham gauge is 1.26 m³ / s, which corresponds to a discharge rate of 15.5 l / s · km². The Pfudabach has a winter pluvial runoff regime . The monthly mean of the month of March with the most discharge is at 1.96 m³ / s, around twice as high as that of the month of October with the least discharge, with 0.92 m³ / s.

To protect the settlements from flooding, the second largest retention basin in Upper Austria was created near Angsüß, with a volume of 1.2 million m³. In the case of a full damming, which is reached during a flood event lasting around sixty years, the damming area is around 35 ha.

ecology

The lower reaches of the Pfudabach in the communities of Diersbach and Sigharting still have numerous near-natural stretches with winding to meandering course and accompanying gallery forests . Here dominate alder , ash , birch and oak and black cherry , hazel , elder and willow . There are also extensive wet meadow complexes, which represent a habitat for rare bird, amphibian and insect species, including the common snipe , the dragonfly and the marsh insect .

In the Pfudabach and its tributaries there is the densest population of the endangered Ukrainian brook lamprey ( Eudontomyzon mariae ) in Upper Austria, which is distributed over the widest stretch of water . The rare river pearl mussel is also native to the Pfudabach.
