Life

Philipp Ludwig Dreyssigmark was the son of the preacher Johann Friedrich Dreyssigmark (* March 27, 1638 in Zittau ; † January 10, 1708 in Volkmarode) and his wife Sabina Dorothea (née Stertewein) (* 1635; † March 1, 1701 in Volkmarode) . His siblings were:

  • Anna Ursula Dreyzigermark (* 1664; † March 17, 1682 in Volkmarode);

  • Justus Wilhelm Dreyzigermark (born November 1, 1672 in Volkmarode; † unknown), studied together with his brother Philipp Ludwig at the University of Helmstedt .

Two of his siblings died in childhood.

After his father's first lessons, he attended Martinsgymnasium in Braunschweig , which was run by the rector Johann Albert Gebhardi (1663–1710) at the time.

At the age of 17 he enrolled , together with his brother Justus Wilhelm, from 1693 to 1697 to study theology at the University of Helmstedt.

After completing his studies, he joined the college of the Riddagshausen monastery ; there, Duke Anton Ulrich von Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel became aware of him and on December 8, 1705 appointed him court deacon in Wolfenbüttel; on December 29, 1705 he was introduced into his office by the abbot of the monastery, Christian Specht .

Duke August Wilhelm von Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel wanted to appoint him as real court preacher when he took office in 1714 , but Dreyssigmark refused this office out of modesty, but his appointment was made on July 7, 1717. In 1723 the Duke appointed him consistorial and church council and was introduced to his office by Chancellor Urban Dietrich von Lüdecke ; In 1725 he was then transferred to the commissariat of the Braunschweig orphanage .

After the court preacher Gottlieb Treuer died in 1729, the duke declared him confessor and abbot of Riddagshausen.

In 1730 he was elected a member of the Prälatorum Curia by the estates and was confirmed in his election by his sovereign; In 1735, Duke Ferdinand Albrecht II of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel appointed him senior court preacher.
