Philipp Öttl

Philipp Öttl (born May 3, 1996 in Bad Reichenhall ) is a German motorcycle racer .

His father Peter Öttl was also a motorcycle racer and was active in the motorcycle world championship in the 1980s and 1990s.

Career

Beginnings

In 2005 Öttl drove up to 50 cm³ in the Supermoto Cup and was runner-up with five victories. In the following year he took another five wins in the class up to 65 cm³. In 2007 and 2008 Öttl competed in the Junior Championship Supermoto in Austria , where he was champion in 2008 with seven wins. At the same time, Öttl competed in several guest races in the ADAC Minibike Cup . Here he got four wins and two 2nd places. In 2009 he competed in the ADAC Junior Cup for the entire season and was runner-up with two wins and three podiums.

In 2010 Öttl started for the HP-Moto team in the International German Motorcycle Championship and finished fourth overall. He experienced the same result there in 2011 . In 2010 and 2011 he competed in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup at the same time and reached 18th place and fourth place overall in the following year, whereby in 2011 he was able to surprise with a win and a 2nd place in the first two races in Jerez. Shortly thereafter, he broke his collarbone during a test at the Lausitzring, but from the middle of the season onwards he made people sit up and take notice with a win at the Sachsenring.

Spanish championship

In 2012 Öttl competed in the Spanish motorcycle road championship where he finished fourth overall after his sensational victory in Jerez. In the same year Öttl competed in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup again and was able to record a victory at Silverstone. With three further podium places, he also achieved fourth place overall.

Motorcycle world championship

In 2012 , Öttl drove the last race of the season, the Valencia Grand Prix , for Tec Interwetten Moto3 Racing in the Moto3 class of the motorcycle world championship and with eleventh place immediately picked up five world championship points and thus 31st place in the overall standings. 2013 and 2014 he drove for the same team each for the whole season. He has been driving for Schedl GP Racing since 2015 . In his first season with his new team, he achieved his first podium with a third place at the Indianapolis Grand Prix .

In the 2018 season , he achieved his first Grand Prix victory at the Spanish Grand Prix at the Circuito de Jerez . Nevertheless, the season was his worst of the four for Schedl GP, he was only 16th with 58 points.

In the 2019 season , Öttl started for the Red Bull KTM Tech3 team in the Moto2 class of the world championship. However, the season was a disappointment, the Bavarian remained without points throughout the season.

In 2020 Öttl will compete in the Supersport World Championship .
