Philipp Thomas
Philipp Thomas (born 1979 in Schwäbisch Hall ) is a German film editor .
Life
Philipp Thomas completed his training as a media designer for image and sound in 2003 and then began studying in 2004 at the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy in the field of assembly / editing. Since graduating in 2010 he has been working as a freelance editor specializing in feature films, advertising and trailer editing.
While still a student, Philipp Thomas won the German Camera Prize in 2008 for editing the 64-minute feature film Teenage Angst (director: Thomas Stuber ) . His graduation film Das Lied in mir (Director: Florian Cossen ) won numerous awards, including the FIPRESCI Prize at the World Film Festival in Montréal in 2010, and two German Film Awards in 2011 . The short film Von Hunden und Pferde , also directed by Thomas Stuber, also received two important prizes: the German Short Film Prize in Gold 2011, and the Student Oscarin silver 2012. The film Berlin Alexanderplatz , edited by Philipp Thomas , was shown in the competition at the 70th Berlinale and, with 11 nominations, was one of the favorites at the German Film Awards 2020. Here, the film won the silver Lola in the Best Feature Film category.
He was also responsible for the editing of the films King Ping - Tap Tappen Tödchen (2013), Herbert (2015), Coconut Hero (2015), The Four Hands (2017) and Two in the Wrong Film (2017).
Philipp Thomas is a member of the German Film Academy and the Federal Association of Film Editing Editor eV (BFS) . He lives in Cologne.
