from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Philipp V von Dalberg , called zu Neuweiher , (* 1529 or 1530 ; † September 6, 1590 ) was a member of the von Dalberg family of imperial knights and the first and some of the few of the family who passed away from the Roman Catholic in the course of the Reformation switched to the Lutheran creed .

origin

Philipp V was a son of Philipp IV (* 1490 or 1491; † January 13, 1533) and Katharina (* 1503, † March 26, 1563), daughter of Philipp von Kronberg and Katharina von Bach . They married in 1521. After the death of Philip IV, Katharina married two more times: first Kaspar von Kronberg and then in 1537 Friedrich IX. von Fleckenstein († 1559).

Philip V was the only child from the marriage of Philip IV and Catherine.

family

Philip V married twice: first in 1549 Helma (Helene, Helena), daughter of Johann Heinrich Roeder von Rodeck and Agatha von Weiler. Helma died in 1564. The following year, 1565, Philipp V. married Anna (* 1545; † October 9, 1612), daughter of Damian von Handschuhsheim and Ursula von Fleckenstein . From these marriages emerged:

  1. Philipp Friedrich I (from his father's first marriage: * 1560; † November 16, 1589, buried in St. Peter in Herrnsheim , today: Worms ) married Maria Apollonia, daughter of Johann Wolf von Sponheim and Maria Schenk von , in April 1589 Schmittburg . She later got a second marriage with Hans Jakob von Wacholtz , Waldbott zu Mainz.
  2. Anna (from her father's first marriage: * 1562; † February 6, 1626) married twice:
    1. 1583 Johann Bock von Gerstheim and later
    2. 1588 Philipp Knebel von Katzenelnbogen . Anna died in 1619. She is buried in Bodenheim .
  3. Barbara (from her father's second marriage: * 1570; † May 2, 1583) was buried in or near St. Peter in Herrnsheim. A grave slab with a relief image is located on the southern outer wall of the church.

    1. 1589 Georg Philipp von Dalberg (* 1565 or 1566; † July 2, 1590) and
    2. on January 25, 1593 Johann Wolfgang von und zu Eltz († December 14, 1619).
  5. Eberhard II called zu Herrnsheim (from his father's second marriage: * 1574; † July 17, 1614 in Lauterburg , buried in St. Peter in Herrnsheim), married Anna (* 1581, † March 20, 1619, buried in the Katharinenkirche in Oppenheim ), a daughter of Ernst Johann Schweikhard von Sickingen zu Ebernburg .
6th - 16th Another 10 small children from both marriages died early. Known by name are: Katharina, Johanetta, Felicitas, Ursula and Johann.

Act

Philip V joined the Reformation. According to the principle of Cuius regio, eius religio , churches and the village population in the villages he ruled Abenheim (today: Worms) and Herrnsheim became Lutheran, even against the resistance of some agnates . But that didn't last in the long run. Of his children, only Eberhard II followed him in the denomination. However, since this line of Dalbergs died out with Eberhard II, Roman Catholic Dalbergers inherited the villages. In 1635 the church in Herrnsheim was finally Roman Catholic again.

death

After their death, Philip V and his wife were given a tomb on the southern outer wall of St. Peter in Herrnsheim.
