Philippine was born in Paris in 1933 as the only daughter of the famous French wine patron Baron Philippe de Rothschild (1902–1988) and his first wife Elisabeth Pelletier de Chambure (1902–1945). In the late 1970s, Philippine joined her father, Baron Philippe de Rothschild's wine business. Together with her stepmother, the American Pauline Fairfax-Potter (1908-1976), she worked on the awareness of the wine company. During a tour of the United States in 1981 , on the occasion of tastings , press conferences, and radio and television reports in the cities of Los Angeles , New York and Miami , Philippine received a remarkable reception. In September of the same year, Madame de Rothschild confirmed her role as “Ambassador of Mouton Rothschild” with the opening of the first exhibition of the works of art that have graced the labels of Château Mouton Rothschild since 1945 .

When her father died in 1988, she became the chairman and majority owner of Baron Philippe de Rothschild SA , and heiress of the wineries Château Mouton-Rothschild , Château d'Armailhac , Château Clerc Milon , Opus One (California) and Viña Almaviva (Chile), Domaine de Lambert, Baron Arques as well as the company and brand names Baron Philippe de Rothschild and Mouton-Cadet . Her fortune was estimated by Le Nouvel Economiste at 190 million euros. On the occasion of the celebrations for the 80th anniversary of Rothschild ownership at Château Mouton, Philippine de Rothschild organized a large dinner with high-class wines for hundreds of prominent guests. The following day she gave the same party for all employees of her company, with the same dinner and the same great wines.

Philippine de Rothschild-Sereys personally selects the artists who design the labels for their finest wine, the Château Mouton Rothschild. Her father's idea for this came up in 1924 and was implemented in 1945. Georges Braque , Georg Baselitz , Francis Bacon and actually everyone of high standing were persuaded to join the “Academie Rothschild”. Since then, the original creations have delighted both wine connoisseurs and passionate collectors. The annual print run that the exquisite Imprimerie Clos de Moulin in Belleville near Lyon produces for the baroness reaches around 350,000 . 2,000 lithographs a year are made from the art labels , which are very popular with lovers of these lithographs.

In 1987 she commemorated her deceased father on the label designed by the Lucerne artist Hans Erni with the following dedication: A mon père, le Baron Philippe de Rothschild, rénovateur de Mouton, je dédie ce millésime de sa 65ème et dernière vendange - Mouton ne change .

There are two label versions of the Wine of the Year 1993 - in the USA the childlike representation of the figure of a nymph was misunderstood by Balthus as " pedophilia ". Mouton decided to deliver wine to the USA with the same label layout, only with complete renunciation of the nymph graphics - and Philippine de Rothschild is said to have made sure that the newly labeled USA bottles were filled with significantly worse wine, as revenge on the exaggerated and uncomfortable Americans.

The 2004 Mouton-Rothschild is adorned with a watercolor painting, according to the description: "Pine trees near Cap d'Antibes on the Cote d'Azur". The artist this time was the art-loving British heir to the throne, Prince Charles . With his Sunday paintings, the two houses of Rothschild and Windsor want to commemorate the Entente Cordiale , which in 2004 celebrated its 100th anniversary.
