The Piaggio P.7 was an experimental and racing aircraft project by the Italian manufacturer Piaggio from 1929. It was planned to be used in Schneider Cup races.

history

In order to achieve a speed advantage over the conventional racing aircraft of the 1920s, the P.7 was not designed with floats . For the start of the aircraft should by propeller speeds and with " Skikufen be lifted out of the water." After that, the main drive should be diverted from the ship's propeller to the propeller by coupling it in order to generate further propulsion aerodynamically . Only a prototype was built, but it never flew. Massive problems when changing the drive train of the 723 kW (1000 PS) V6 engine led to the abortion of the tests.
