history

School friends Lutz Rodenbüsch and Robert Ring decided to found a band in 2007. When Alexander Moore, Joshua Bright and Andreas Welsch joined the rest of the band a year later, the "Teddy Pickers" were founded in early 2008. In the original line-up, Andreas Welsch played the bass. He left the band in 2010, and Robert Ring switched from rhythm guitar to bass.

At the beginning, the band relied on English-language compositions, which were mainly written by Lutz Rodenbüsch. In summer 2008 the Teddy Pickers won the local newcomer contest WND Bandbattle in St. Wendel . and recorded the first demo songs in the Rogue Studios in Neunkirchen in Saarland with the prize money.

The years 2009/2010 were characterized by various live performances, mainly in Saarland and Rhineland-Palatinate. Andreas Welsch left the band. The remaining band members moved to Berlin and at the same time deleted the word "Teddy" from their band name. In Berlin, the Pickers initially financed themselves through street music, which enabled them to make contact with the music industry at a Berlin subway station at the end of 2010 .

After presenting some demo songs on regional radio stations, invitations to Radio Fritz and MDR Sputnik were made in early 2011 , where the Pickers were presented as a local newcomer against the background of their experiences as street musicians. At the end of April 2011, the band took part in the competition "Fritz Night of Talents" organized twice a year by the Berlin / Brandenburg broadcaster Radio Fritz and played in Berlin clubs.

In 2011 the Pickers opened various concerts and tours in Germany by The Crookes , Young Rebel Set , the US band Mona, Kakkmaddafakka and Blue October . They played in June 2011 at the Halberg Open Air of the Saarländischer Rundfunk, whose youth wave Our thing supported the band within a one-week unplugged school tour for an energy drink brand. In the same year Pickers produced on the band's own label Picker Music their six-track debut EP picker with only English-language songs in the digital distribution of Zebralution was released in early September 2011th Also in September 2011 the band started again for Radio Fritz at the New Music Award . She also played at the Hamburg Reeperbahn Festival 2011. As a so-called "closet tape" she appeared in early October 2011 on neoParadise on ZDFneo . At the same time, the Pickers began to compose songs in German, for which Lutz Rodenbüsch and the other band members also worked as composers.

At the beginning of 2012 a contract was signed with the music publisher BMG Rights Management . In March 2012 the Pickers completed a Germany-wide tour as the opener for The Subways . The support of the Initiative Musik within the 18th round of funding in 2012 finally enabled the band to produce their debut album, which was published by Warner Music at the end of September 2012 . On September 28, 2012, the Pickers represented the federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate with the title 1000 miles at the Bundesvision Song Contest 2012 broadcast live on Pro7 and achieved 11th place. Following this, the band completed their first own club tour through Germany and was a guest on various German radio and TV programs. Towards the end of 2012, the Pickers were also able to attract the first attention of foreign radio stations with English-language titles. The Polish radio Kaszëbë was the first broadcaster outside of Germany to choose Nothing Cheers Me Up as the “Song of the Day”.

In 2013 the Pickers continued their club tour and also played some dates as support for Sportfreunde Stiller and various festivals. Then they retired to the studio to u. a. to record songs for the next album with producer Gordon Raphael.
