Pierre-Emmanuel Dalcin (born February 15, 1977 in Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne ) is a former French ski racer . He was a member of the French national ski team from 1997 to 2010 and specialized in the fast downhill and super-G disciplines. The two-time French champion competed in 145 World Cup races from 1998 until an injury at the end of 2009, finished in the top ten nine times and won one downhill. At World Championships and Winter Olympics , he was among the fastest 15 times five times.

biography

After starting at FIS races , Dalcin was first used in the European Cup in December 1995 . He celebrated his first international success at the Junior World Championships in 1996 in Hoch-Ybrig, Switzerland, when he won the bronze medal in the Super-G.

In January 1998 the Frenchman made his debut in the Ski World Cup in Kitzbühel . He got his first World Cup points on November 27, 1999 in the downhill from Vail . Two years later, on December 7, 2001, he finished sixth in the Super-G of Val-d'Isère , making it into the top ten for the first time. His first participation in the World Championship in St. Anton in 2001 he finished ninth in the Super-G and 15th in the downhill, each time as the best Frenchman. The 2001/02 season was his most successful overall in the Super-G, at the end of the season he finished 13th in the discipline ranking. At the 2002 Olympic Games in Salt Lake City , he came in eleventh place in the downhill; a year later he was 15th in the downhill at the 2003 World Cup in St. Moritz .

Dalcin achieved his first podium in the World Cup on February 1, 2004 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen . In the Super-G he took second place, which was by far his best result of the season, only one more time he was among the top twenty. Also in the 2004/05 season he was only able to reach the top 20 once and at the 2005 World Cup in Bormio did not get past 31st in the Downhill and 32nd in the Super-G. In the 2005/06 season he again achieved a top 10 result in the downhill from Bormio and finished eleventh in the downhill at the 2006 Olympic Games in Turin .

Pierre-Emmanuel Dalcin celebrated his only World Cup victory in the downhill from Val-d'Isère on January 20, 2007. With two further placements among the top ten, he achieved his best result in the downhill world cup ranking in 2006/07 with 13th place. In the world championship downhill from Åre he finished 19th, he could not finish the Super-G. In the 2007/08 and 2008/09 seasons Dalcin was rarely in the top twenty. At the 2009 World Championships in Val-d'Isère, he was 18th in the downhill and 22nd in the Super-G.

On December 4, 2009, Dalcin had a bad fall during downhill training on the Birds of Prey slope in Beaver Creek . He suffered ligament tears in both knees, a concussion, a broken spoke in his right arm, and injuries to his shoulder and face. In October 2010 he announced his retirement from ski racing.
